2023 Virginia Wagner Award Winner - Laura

Coming from a family of nurses, Laura has worked as a bedside emergency nurse for over 20 years. She is also a part of the INDYCAR Medical and Safety Teams, leveraging her skills and knowledge to provide medical care to drivers, crews, and spectators at some of the largest sporting events in the world. The combination of emergency medicine, mass gathering events, and fire training piqued her interest in serving communities during times of disaster. Laura is pursuing her Master of Arts in Emergency Management and Homeland Security and is set to graduate in December 2024, and hopes to further support people in times of crisis - whether it be through the Department of Health & Human Services, FEMA, the National Disaster Medical System, or a local emergency management entity.
